Welcome to Everyday with Jane: Where Life After 50 Gets Really Good

You know how some people say their best years are behind them? Yeah, I'm not buying that. Not even a little bit.

Hi, I'm Deb (I also answer to Jane), and if we're going to be friends (and I hope we are), you should know that I believe the best stuff happens when you stop waiting for permission and start creating the life you actually want to live.

My husband likes to joke that my superpower is shopping. He's not wrong – but it's so much more than that. It's about finding the perfect thing, the right solution, the idea that makes everything click. And after 30+ years of career twists, four kids, five grandkids, and more dinner parties than I can count, I've figured out a thing or two about making life work beautifully.

The Scenic Route Got Me Here

Basketball took me from Finley, North Dakota to Drake University. I graduated with a degree in Journalism in 1992. I followed graduation by marrying my high school sweetheart and we headed to Chicago. My career started with selling computers at CDW. Sales, sales and more sales = stress. I knew I needed a change. Then came the day my husband dropped me off at a Target interview open house. It was a family affair. Our number one son, Jake was buckled in car seat, and I headed into what I know now was a new life.

That single moment changed everything. I became a Target executive, worked my way up loving every minute of it. I dare say Target taught me how to be me. I was 24 and learning…everything. How to be a mom, a manager, an employee and a boss. I worked my way up to running a $50 million annual store across Chicago, Detroit, and Minneapolis, and eventually landed downtown in operations. By the time I got to downtown Minneapolis I added three more babies—Tony and Nick (twins), and sweet Emily.

That’s when life had other plans for us. A family move brought us back to North Dakota – with four babies in tow. Talk about an adventure. I was a stay-at-home mom and I loved it. I made breakfast, picked up the kids and met the girls for coffee (more like cocktails 😊), and while I loved it, I missed the energy of being out in the world.

So, I jumped back in. Spent some time as Director of Communications at a medical company. Then a stint at one of my true loves: sports marketing at Athletic Republic. That gig was pure fun until the corporate office relocated to Utah and I found myself at a crossroads.

Instead of panicking, I got creative. Got a part time gig at Wanzek Construction that turned into a full time gig where I able to build a marketing communications department that allowed me to talk strategy and build a team. And then? I took the leap and started Jane 1530 – my golf, home, and lifestyle company that's still my part time gig.

That one friend

After watching me navigate all these chapters, one of my friends said something that stuck: "You know what you're really great at? Helping people. You're great at living. At making people feel welcome. At knowing what works and sharing it without being preachy."

I thought , maybe she has a point.

This Is Where You Come In

For 30 years, my house has been the place people gather. The kitchen where everyone ends up. The table where conversations go deep and laughter runs loud. Friends have told me I make it look easy – the entertaining, the juggling, the keeping-it-all-together while actually enjoying it. Here's my secret: it's not about perfection. It's about knowing what matters and letting the rest go.

Now I'm combining everything – my business brain, my love of golf, my passion for gathering people, my hard-won wisdom from raising kids and now being Grandma to five of the cutest babies ever – into this space. Everyday and Jane is where I share the real stuff: the wins, the messy moments, the shortcuts I've discovered, and the life lessons that actually work.

What You'll Find Here

This isn't your typical "how-to" blog where I tell you what you should be doing. (Nobody needs another person telling them how to live their life, right?) Instead, think of this as your friend sharing what's working for her – the golf tips that actually help your game, the entertaining hacks that make hosting fun instead of stressful, the shopping finds that are worth your money, and the real talk about navigating life as a parent of adult kids and a grandparent who refuses to fade into the background.

We'll talk about:

  • Life lessons from the career twists and the family chaos

  • Golf tips that come from actually playing, not just theory

  • Entertaining made easy – because you deserve to enjoy your own party

  • Style and shopping – looking good at every age and stage

  • Navigating this whole grandparent thing without losing yourself

  • Business insights from building, running, and growing companies

  • The good, the bad, and the wonderfully imperfect reality of life after 50

Why Now?

Because life after 50 isn't about slowing down – it's about speeding up in the right direction. It's about knowing yourself well enough to skip the stuff that doesn't serve you and double down on what brings you joy. It's about being the grandma who's fun AND wise, the friend who shows up, the woman who's still got big dreams and the energy to chase them.

Plus, my kids are grown, I've got some time back, and honestly? I've learned too much good stuff to keep it to myself.

Let's Do This Together

So grab your coffee (or your wine – no judgment on timing here), get comfortable, and let's navigate this beautiful, chaotic, absolutely wonderful phase of life together. Whether you're figuring out how to connect with adult children, planning your next tee time, hosting Thanksgiving for 20, or just trying to figure out who you are now that the kids have left – I'm here for it all.

Welcome to Everyday & Jane. I'm so glad you're here.

Now, let's have some fun.
